Summary:
In the article "Annoying Ways People Use Sources”, Kyle Stedman attempts
to tell his audience how to properly use and cite sources. He argues that when
people don’t properly use quotes from their sources, it annoys the reader. In
addition we may not properly cite these sources because we either don’t know
how to or do not care to. I believe Stedman wrote this article for everybody
because it shows students how to properly use quotes in their paragraphs and
mentioned at one point how even web designers are at fault for placing links
(their quotes) in faulty places.
Synthesis:
Stedman’s article makes me think about the majority of articles we have read
this semester but mainly Kleine’s and Kantz’s writing. These two talked about
setting up research papers and I feel like Stedman’s in a way gives the reader
additional advice on how to properly write one and make it effective.
Afterthoughts: Stedman’s article, although somewhat
informative and interesting, generally annoyed me. Many of the examples he gave
us I did not believe had huge issues that it was necessary to dedicate an
entire article to. Although I think he has a right to make his point, generally
speaking it bothered me.
I would agree that this article annoyed me too. I thought it was very repetitive and the issues he was complaining about were not even all that bad. I feel like he was being very harsh.
ReplyDeleteI also was bothered by this article. It seemed like he was looking for things to complain about throughout his entire article. I also thought this article was like Kantz's article due to the research aspect, as well as how they both try to correct common mistakes.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this article and think he made valid points! I can see why it would annoy people as well though so I cannot disagree with you completely. Ive just noticed some of the points he has made and how that could possibly make a research paper not seem as well written.
